Summer School "Basic Aerosol Science 2022", Vienna
When?
The Summer School will take place between 10 and 16 July 2022 in Vienna/Austria at the Faculty of Physics (Boltzmanngasse 5, 1090 Vienna) as an in-person meeting.
Depending on the COVID-19 situation, changes may occur on short notice. We will inform about changes via this website and via email.
What?
The Summer School "Basic Aerosol Science" offers a broad education in basic principles and techniques of aerosol science. The main focus is on aerosol physics, but other fields such as aerosol chemistry and applications of aerosol science for e.g. issues of human health are also covered. The teachers of this Summer School are leading European experts in the field of aerosol science.
Who?
The Summer School is targeting international graduate students and early post‐doctoral researchers, as well as persons who work in the field of aerosol science.
Why?
The participants of this Summer School will acquire an excellent knowledge of the basics of aerosol science needed to understand and critically review aerosol processes and their interaction with the environment. They can immediately implement their knowledge in research projects of their institutions, act as decision makers in solving air pollution problems or contribute to regulatory processes and setting of standards.

Grants
We are happy to announce that we can offer financial support for enrolled Master and PhD students to participate in the Summer School “Basic Aerosol Science 2022”:
- The Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) is sponsoring 4 grants amounting to 350 € each. The aim of the ÖAW-funded grants is to cover part of the registration fees for students attending the Summer School.
- The Association for Aerosol Research (GAeF) is sponsoring 4 grants amounting to 495 € each. The aim of the GAeF-funded grants is to cover part of the registration fees for students attending the Summer School.
To be eligible for a GAeF-funded grant, a student must be member of GAeF. To join GAeF, see here: - Two tuition waivers sponsored by the University of Vienna (International Office).
Eligible are regular students and young researchers of all disciplines from the University of Vienna and its partner universities which are admitted to a Bachelor/Diploma/Master/Doctorate or PhD programme.
Students who would like to obtain a support should submit the following documents not later than 31 March 2022:
- Letter of motivation including an explanation why/how the grant will support the applicant’s scientific work
- Short CV including publication list (same CV as in the Summer School application)
- Letter of support from the thesis supervisor highlighting the excellence of the applicant
Requirements to obtain a certificate (5 ECTS)
- Attendance of lectures and participation in the field experiment
- Submission of assignments from the individual lectures (assignments can be handed in during the summer school or within two weeks after the end of the Summer School)
