Supervisory Board Meeting
17th February, 12:00 (1st Floor, Room #55)

The Aerosol and Environmental Physics (AEP) Group from University of Vienna is a part of CLOUD (Cosmic Leaving Outdoor Droplets) collaboration and CLOUD-ITN (Initial Training Network) project involving institutes from 9 countries. In February 2011 two CLOUD Workshops will be hosted by the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna: CLOUD DATA Workshop (14-16th February 2011) and CLOUD OPEN Workshop (16-18th February), where 25 external scientists are invited.

The main objectives of CLOUD OPEN Workshop are (1) to discuss the most recent results obtained by CLOUD-ITN, (2) to collect the input and suggestions for further analysis and future experiments and (3) to discuss progress of other research activities in the field.

The workshop will feature presentations both by CLOUD-ITN scientists and by invited external experts. The draft agenda and further organizational details will be provided soon.

In the CLOUD project operating at CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) we are studying possible effects of cosmic rays on nucleation as well as on cloud droplet and ice particle formation under controlled conditions. To follow-up on two successful campaigns October-November 2009 and June-July 2010, a third campaign is currently being run to study ion-induced and neutral binary and ternary nucleation.

AEP?s main contributions include: fibre optic UV illumination system characterization, particle number concentration measurements by means of a continuous-flow water Condensation Particle Counter (CPC), and future installation of a newly developed multi-channel expansion-type CPC (MCSANC).
