As part of NASA's “INSPYRE” research mission, the team led by physicist Bernadett Weinzierl (University of Vienna) is studying so-called fire clouds. These clouds (pyrocumulonimbus, “PyroCb”) are triggered by wildfires and extend into the stratosphere.
